The volcanic rock at Black Balsam Knob (along the Blue Ridge Parkway) has unique and stunning shapes. In-between the wavy rock formations, at the end of summer, goldenrods start to bloom. Such a juxtaposition: delicate bright flowers and rough wave-like cliffs. With endless blue mountains in the distance. A gorgeous hike any time of year, but especially colorful in early fall, during goldenrod season.
